SEC Postpones Decision on Invesco Galaxy Ethereum ETF

May 7, 2024

The United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has rescheduled its decision on the Invesco Galaxy Ethereum ETF to July 5, 2024. This delay allows the agency to thoroughly review the ETF proposal and associated issues. Before this, the SEC postponed decisions on Ethereum ETFs from Invesco, Grayscale, Franklin Templeton, VanEck, and BlackRock. However, the SEC has recently increased its regulatory scrutiny of Franklin Templeton's Ethereum ETF, extending the deadline to June 10. Analysts are eagerly awaiting May's decisions on Ethereum ETFs, but regulatory concerns around Ether's security classification may complicate the approval process. The SEC's conservative stance on cryptocurrency ETFs may have influenced this delay, reflecting a lack of regulatory clarity still present in the market. Despite approving a Bitcoin ETF earlier in the year, challenges surrounding Ether's classification and regulation continue to be major topics of discussion.
