Simplifying Crypto Wallet Usage with ‘EIP-3074’

May 7, 2024

Developers working on Ethereum are considering various Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) as part of the upcoming Pectra update. One proposal under review is EIP-3074, which aims to enhance the user-friendliness of crypto wallets.

While many proposals focus on smart contract-controlled accounts, this particular one is geared towards externally owned accounts (EOAs) that users manage through private keys. EIP-3074 looks to make these accounts more versatile by allowing smart contract authorization for transactions.

In addition to enhancing programmability, this change could also streamline user experience by enabling batch transactions and letting third parties pay transaction fees.

Leaders in the field have shown support for EIP-3074, acknowledging its potential to significantly improve wallet usability. However, they also highlight the importance of addressing any security vulnerabilities that may arise.
