Solana has become the first major blockchain to achieve a record of 100,000 transactions per second on its mainnet. This was accomplished during a stress test demonstrating the network's capabilities.
Peak TPS Values for Solana
During the recent stress test, Solana recorded a peak of 107,540 TPS, including both successful and failed transactions. The majority of these were lightweight program calls that did not perform substantial computations.
Current Throughput of Solana
Despite the record, Solana's actual throughput is significantly lower. According to Solscan, the current overall TPS is reported to be approximately 3,700 TPS. This figure is inflated as about two-thirds of these transactions are validator votes necessary for consensus participation. The estimated actual throughput of the network is around 1,050 TPS.
Network Activity and Memecoins on Solana
Much of Solana's network activity is driven by memecoins. The Pump.fun platform accounts for 62% of the total value locked, showing that memecoins are the primary driver of network activity. Recently, the value locked in Solana's DeFi has surged to $10.7 billion.
Solana's achievement of 100,000 TPS highlights the network's potential; however, the actual throughput and nature of transactions suggest that the milestones may not reflect the real usage of the blockchain.
