After six months of inactivity, stolen funds from the Poloniex crypto exchange have been moved for the first time, marking a significant development in the ongoing investigation.
Details of the Poloniex Hack
On Monday night, a labeled address holding the stolen assets moved the funds to a US-banned Tornado Cash. This transfer is the hacker's first attempt to launder the stolen money since the crypto heist in November 2023. Wu Blockchain's report revealed that the Poloniex hacker sent 100 ETH, equivalent to about $308,000, from address 0x3E...fDFd to the mixer. Subsequently, PeckShieldAlert reported that the same address had transferred 1,100 ETH, valued at nearly $3.5 million, to Tornado Cash. The Poloniex hack led to a loss of $125 million and has been linked to the North Korean hacker group, Lazarus Group.
