This past week saw several significant developments in the world of decentralized finance (DeFi). The main focus was on former US President Donald Trump and his silence on the upcoming crypto platform. The team behind the project revealed the new token, WLFI.
Trump Silent at Event
Donald Trump did not mention the new crypto project World Liberty Financial (WLFI) during the so-called launch event. In September, the former president was interviewed by crypto influencer Farokh Sarmad in an X Space following an assassination attempt on September 15. Although Trump promoted the event as a 'State of Crypto Address,' it took about 16 minutes for him to say: 'We’re going to make our country greater than ever before, and you’re going to be happy, and you’re going to love your crypto.' The project and the token were mentioned significantly later, over two hours into the livestream.
House Republicans Demand SEC Clarification on Crypto Airdrops
Republicans in the House of Representatives are demanding that SEC Chair Gary Gensler clarify the classification of crypto airdrops. In a letter dated September 17, representatives Tom Emmer and House Financial Services Committee Chairman Patrick McHenry expressed concern over SEC assertions in various lawsuits. In September 2022, the SEC sued Hydrogen Technology Corporation for market manipulation of crypto asset securities.
Ethena Hacked: Warning to Users
The Ethena website suffered a hack on September 18. Ethena Labs warns users not to interact with any sites or applications claiming to be Ethena. According to a social media post by Ethena Labs, the domain registrar account for the website was compromised, and it is temporarily deactivated until the issue is resolved. The Ethena protocol and user funds were not affected.
