Hacker Hacks Telegram Game Super Sushi Samurai

Mar 23, 2024

The Telegram game Super Sushi Samurai became the victim of a hacker attack, resulting in the theft of $4.6 million worth of funds. The attack was carried out by exploiting a vulnerability in the game's smart contract, allowing the hacker to repeatedly double their funds by sending them to themselves. This method, known as a "double spending" attack, led to the perpetrator accumulating 690 million SSS tokens, which they then exchanged for 1310 ETH on various decentralized exchanges.

A specialist from Yuga Labs, known by the pseudonym Coffee, detailed how the attack was carried out. After the successful hack, the hacker offered to return the stolen funds by contacting the development team through a signature in one of the transactions. Negotiations for the return of the stolen funds are currently underway.

As a result of the incident, the value of the SSS token plummeted by 99.9%. The game Super Sushi Samurai is based on the Blast blockchain, offering players the opportunity to earn rewards through various mechanisms, including a trading tax, transaction fee discounts, and income from an Ethereum liquidity pool. The Blast blockchain uses Optimistic Rollups technology for scalability and offers users the opportunity for passive income.

The launch of Super Sushi Samurai took place in November 2023 and was initiated by the founder of the NFT marketplace Blur, known by the pseudonym Pacman. This hacking incident highlights the importance of ensuring security in blockchain gaming projects and the need for thorough vetting of smart contracts for potential vulnerabilities.
