In a significant crackdown on cybercrime, international law enforcement agencies have successfully dismantled SocksEscort, a notorious proxy service that enabled criminals to obscure their online activities. According to the assessment of specialists presented in the publication, this coordinated operation involved multiple countries and advanced tactics to disrupt the operations of cybercriminals worldwide.
Global Operation Against Cybercrime
The operation, which spanned across 163 countries, utilized sophisticated methods, including the deployment of malware to infect devices and mask illicit activities. Authorities managed to seize 34 domains associated with the service, effectively cutting off access to the proxy network used by cybercriminals.
Seizures and Financial Impact
In addition to domain seizures, law enforcement agencies took down several servers linked to SocksEscort and froze approximately 35 million euros in cryptocurrency. This substantial financial impact highlights the ongoing efforts to combat cybercrime and the importance of international cooperation in addressing these threats.
In a related effort, authorities previously dismantled a large-scale malicious proxy operation linked to compromised routers, known as Operation Lightning. For more details, see this article.
