Memecoins Named after Countries Surge in Popularity Before Olympics

May 8, 2024

Recently, memecoin traders have turned their attention to a new category of assets: cryptocurrencies named after countries. With the Olympic Games approaching in Paris in July this year, investors are betting on the increase in value of various national tokens, anticipating heightened interest in these digital assets. A monitoring tool developed by a user known as The Nouner allows tracking of price movements for cryptocurrencies representing 47 different countries. Over the last 24 hours, trading volume for these coins reached nearly $18 million, while their total market capitalization amounted to about $110 million.

Among all the national meme coins, American Coin (USA) stands out with the highest market capitalization, reaching approximately $83 million. According to data from DEX Screener, the value of the USA coin has increased by 74,000% from its issuance on March 14 to its peak on May 4. The next largest is China Coin (CHINA) with a market capitalization of $5.8 million, which also showed a 23,000% increase from its release date to its record high registered on March 14.

Looking at the trades of the last 24 hours, it is noteworthy to mention the impressive growth of the newly released Palestine Coin (PALESTINE), which increased by 764%. The France Coin (FRA) and UK Coin (UK) also showed significant growth during this period, rising by 120% and 145% respectively. The list of country-themed cryptocurrencies also includes the meme coin Olumpec Terch (OLUMPC), which combines misspellings with the theme of the Olympic Games. OLUMPC rose by 6400% from the creation of its liquidity pool to its peak on May 5.
