Tether and rhino.fi have formed a strategic alliance

Jan 19, 2024

Tether recently announced the formation of a 'strategic alliance' with rhino.fi, formerly known as DeversiFi and Ethfinex. According to the company's statement, this move aims to enhance liquidity solutions for rhino.fi, particularly in the realm of blockchain bridge development.

Rhino.fi was created by Ethfinex, a subsidiary of Tether, which spun off from Bitfinex to develop a 'trustless' exchange. Subsequently, the trading volume associated with these projects returned under Bitfinex's management, and DeversiFi pivoted to token trading on the blockchain, becoming more independent from Bitfinex after a buyout by its leadership.

Despite the separation, DeversiFi and Bitfinex continued to collaborate, especially in facilitating the transfer of Tether stablecoins to the second-layer decentralized exchange DeversiFi. After rebranding as rhino.fi, the company started working on supporting transactions with various tokens from different blockchains, including Tether stablecoins.

At the helm of rhino.fi is William Harborne, the son of renowned technology investor Christopher Harborne (also known as Chakrit Sakunkrit), a shareholder in Tether's parent company, Digfinex. Christopher has been actively involved in politics, serving as a major sponsor of the Reform UK political party and one of the key backers of former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

He also played a crucial role in supporting Bitfinex and Tether with banking issues, filing applications to open accounts at Signature Bank for his company AML Global, which later received funding from Bitfinex.

Therefore, this new strategic alliance between rhino.fi and Tether is another step in the long history of interaction between William Harborne, his father Christopher, and the companies Bitfinex, Tether, and Ethfinex (now rhino.fi).
