The Conflux Network team has introduced an L2 network based on Bitcoin

Jan 18, 2024

On January 18, 2024, Conflux announced the release of an EVM-compatible second-layer solution based on the Bitcoin network. The launch of the test network is planned for the first quarter of 2024.

Key features of the new solution highlighted by the developers include the ability to pay fees in Bitcoin, support for cross-chain transactions, and enhanced security. Additionally, compatibility with EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) means the ability to deploy smart contracts on this network. The developers also noted the possibility of staking through the Proof-of-Stake protocol.

This paradigm-shifting approach opens new horizons for the use of Bitcoin, creating multiple levels of interaction and applications beyond the traditional use of digital assets.stated in the official press release

Second-layer solutions are aimed at reducing transaction costs and increasing the throughput of the base network. In the case of Bitcoin, such a project is the Lightning Network:

However, there is a key difference between this solution and the development of the Conflux Network - EVM compatibility. This will give network users access to smart contracts and decentralized applications (dApps).

According to information published by Conflux, the launch of the test network is scheduled for February-March 2024, with the official launch of the mainnet expected in May.
