Warner Music Group's top digital executive, Oana Ruxandra, says she now wants to explore her “entrepreneurial spirit”.
Oana Ruxandra, the lead digital executive and prominent web3 supporter at Warner Music Group (WMG), is parting ways with the company, stating she feels "it's time for a new direction."
A confidential internal note sourced by Billboard reveals that Ruxandra's decision followed a conversation with CEO Robert Kyncl. Though the details of their discussion have not been made public, Ruxandra has expressed her intention to dive deeper into her “entrepreneurial spirit”.
It remains uncertain who will step into Ruxandra's shoes, but she mentioned that the WMG CEO "is already strategizing about my replacement and will share updates on that shortly."
After joining WMG in the early 2010s focusing on business development, Ruxandra transitioned to Universal Music Group four years after. She made her comeback to WMG in 2018 and assumed the senior leadership role. During her tenure, she spearheaded a music accelerator initiative in partnership with Polygon Labs, targeting breakthroughs where web3 converges with music.
Furthermore, she was an outspoken advocate for non-fungible tokens (NFTs). One notable effort was facilitating a partnership between OpenSea, an NFT platform, and WMG, aiming to enhance and expand their web3 fanbase. Ruxandra's focus during her time at WMG was unmistakably on the emergent realms of web3, NFTs, and the gaming industry.
