In a significant move towards enhancing security, developers of the XRP Ledger have introduced a new digital signature standard, MLDSA, aimed at countering the looming threat of quantum computing. Introduction of MLDSA Signature
The MLDSA signature, which replaces older cryptographic systems, generates signatures that are approximately 2,420 bytes in size. This new standard is designed to support quantum-resistant transactions, accounts, and consensus mechanisms, ensuring the integrity and security of the XRP Ledger in the face of future technological advancements.
Current Implementation on AlphaNet
Currently, these changes are being trialed on AlphaNet, the developer network for XRPL, and have not yet been rolled out to the main network. In addition to the new signature standard, the ledger has also integrated built-in key rotation, enabling the network to upgrade its cryptographic tools through validator consensus without causing disruptions to user accounts.
Proactive Measures for Future Security
