Each AUSD is designed to maintain a 1:1 peg to the U.S. dollar and is backed by reserves that include short-term U.S. Treasuries, overnight repo, cash, and other liquid assets. Agora uses an Open Reward Model that distributes part of the economics generated by reserves to partners integrating AUSD. Such partners can include exchanges, wallets, fintech applications, DeFi protocols, and other financial services.

AUSD is designed to maintain a value close to $1 and does not automatically increase the number of tokens held in a wallet. Another area of Agora's business is white-label stablecoin infrastructure. The platform enables companies to issue their own branded digital dollars using AUSD as the underlying asset. This model uses an ERC-4626 vault architecture, where the custom stablecoin is backed by AUSD deposited into the corresponding smart contract.

In November 2025, Agora began using the LayerZero OFT standard for cross-chain AUSD transfers, allowing a unified asset to move between supported networks without creating separate wrapped versions.

The list of supported networks can change over time. For example, in April 2026, Agora discontinued new AUSD issuance on Injective and announced the gradual phase-out of support for the network. AUSD is issued by Agora Bermuda Limited. The company is regulated by the Bermuda Monetary Authority and holds a Class F license for digital asset business activities, including the issuance, sale, and redemption of digital assets. To mint or redeem AUSD directly, users must become verified Agora clients and complete the required identification procedures.

The main risks associated with AUSD extend beyond blockchain technology. The stability of the asset can be affected by reserve liquidity, the operations of banks, custodians, and other financial intermediaries, as well as regulatory changes. Additional technological risks arise from the use of smart contracts, cross-chain infrastructure, third-party wallets, and DeFi protocols. Blockchain transactions are irreversible, meaning transfer errors can also result in loss of access to assets.

In the institutional segment, AUSD competes not only with other fiat-backed stablecoins but also with tokenized deposits, money market funds, and other forms of digital dollars. Demand for AUSD depends on liquidity, the number of integrations, redemption reliability, and Agora's ability to maintain a unified settlement asset across multiple blockchain networks.

Agora AUSD represents an institutional stablecoin model that combines traditional reserve infrastructure with programmable blockchain settlement and an economic distribution system for partners. VanEck, State Street, and independent attestations form the financial infrastructure supporting the reserves, while APIs, multichain support, and white-label solutions expand the potential applications of AUSD.
