MeWe Principles
The story of MeWe began in 2011 in New Mexico when co-founders Mark Weinstein and Jonathan Wolfe envisioned creating a new generation of social media. They were disappointed with the attitude of major tech companies towards personal privacy and their readiness to sell user data. As a result, they developed a concept of a safe and respectful space that unites people and brings fun back to social networks. MeWe officially launched at the South by Southwest Interactive Media festival in 2016, where the platform was nominated for the “Innovative World Technologies” award.
In March 2021, Jeffrey Edell, an experienced executive in entertainment and technology, became the chairman and CEO of the company. Under his leadership, MeWe significantly improved the user experience, increased the number of members, and intensified the focus on privacy.

Amplica Access is an advanced service that enables users to create and manage their Social Identity for the Social Web. After creation, users can use their Universal Identifier, subscriptions, and connections with people in any Social Web application. With this innovative system, users fully control their Social Identity, preventing other companies from owning and storing it.
- What is my "Social Identity"?
Your Social Identity is an online profile that you use to access the Social Web and to communicate with others on it. The first step in creating your Social Identity is to register your unique Universal Identifier.
- What is my "Universal Identifier"?
When creating your Social Identity, choose a name that is easy to read and consistent across all Social Web applications. This will make it easier for you to find connections and for others to find you. The system will automatically add a suffix to your chosen name, so you don't have to worry about it being unique. In most cases the suffix will not be displayed.
Blockchain Project Development
In 2023, MeWe made a strategic decision to transition to blockchain. In partnership with Frequency and Amplica Labs, the transition to the blockchain-enabled Social Web began, featuring the following improvements:
