Blockchain tracker Whale Alert announced the unlocking of 400 million XRP tokens by Ripple, which is approximately estimated at $217 million. This transaction attracted the attention of members of the crypto community due to the unusual timing and the mysterious message attached to the transfer.
Ripple's deviation from the usual unlocking schedule caused confusion among members of the crypto community. The company typically issues about 1 billion XRP tokens from its escrow wallet at the beginning of each month. However, in February, only half a billion coins were unlocked, which gave rise to various theories among community members about the reasons for this deviation.
Despite an increase in the circulating supply of 400 million tokens, the price of XRP has not changed much. At the time of writing, the asset was trading at $0.537.
Interestingly, in the e-mail correspondence, conversations were discovered between bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto and one of the first BTC developers Martti Malmi, which indicate Nakamoto's admiration for the Ripple project. Formerly known as RipplePay, this project, conceived by Ryan Fugger in 2004, was a forerunner of decentralized digital currency systems, including bitcoin.
