Blockchain games are making a comeback on Epic Games

Dec 26, 2023

The Epic Games Store, known for its online gaming platform, is reopening its doors to blockchain games and Web3 games. The company has changed its policy to include these games on its platform.

Some blockchain games will be classified as "Adults Only" due to the possibility of exchanging digital currency for fiat money. Previously, Epic Games had excluded all "Adults Only" games following recommendations from the Entertainment Software Rating Board, imposing a complete ban on such products.

However, the company recently announced a change in its policy, making an exception for blockchain games and NFT-supported games. These games must still comply with existing rules, including bans on pornography, gambling, and hate-inciting content.

As a result of this change, games such as Unchained Gods and Striker Manager 3 have been reintroduced to the platform. Immutable, the developer of Gods Unchained, welcomed this decision, noting that it brings Web3 games closer to industry acceptance.

While another popular online gaming platform, Steam, has had a complete ban on cryptocurrency-related games since 2021, developers are finding ways to launch such games despite the restrictions.
