The Ethereum metaverse game, The Sandbox, has announced the release date for a series of officially licensed Elvis Presley NFT avatars. These avatars, which were first announced last year by the Elvis Presley Legacy Council, are designed to honor the enduring legacy of the late musician. Each of the 3,000 avatars will showcase recognizable outfits and hairstyles from Presley's illustrious career, along with unique emotes inspired by his iconic dance moves.

The NFT avatars, minted on the Ethereum scaling network Polygon, will be fully playable in all future Sandbox multiplayer experiences. They will also unlock upcoming features and content in the metaverse space. The public sale for these avatars is scheduled to start on August 9, following an exclusive 24-hour purchase window for owners of The Sandbox’s NFT-based land and certain avatar collections, as well as those who registered for an allowlist.

All Elvis avatars will be unveiled on August 11. The avatars will be divided across four rarity levels, and each will cost 100 SAND, equivalent to about $41 at the time of writing. Avatar holders will also have governance and voting rights for the Elvis Legacy Council DAO, a decentralized autonomous organization that will help determine future decisions regarding Presley’s digital expansion.

The release of the Elvis avatars is part of a digital, week-long celebration of "The King of Rock & Roll" that starts on August 9. The aim is to keep his legacy alive for younger generations. Fans will have the opportunity to livestream concerts, tribute contests, and panel discussions, and there will be a digital tour of Presley’s iconic home, Graceland.

Last year, The Sandbox also announced plans for an official Elvis Presley metaverse space, featuring a digital recreation of Graceland and unique NFTs. This will place it alongside virtual land spaces owned by entities like metal band Slipknot, rapper Snoop Dogg, McDonald’s, Adidas, and Gucci.
