The price of the Ronin gaming token has reached a two-year high

Feb 1, 2024

RON, the native token of the Ronin network, which is built on Ethereum, continues its growth and reaches a two-year high of $2.89, according to CoinGecko data. Its price has risen by 5% in the last day and 57% in the last 30 days.

Ronin serves as an Ethereum sidechain specifically designed for cryptocurrency gaming. Recently, it has been attracting more users and displaying increased activity. This growth is largely associated with the success of the game Pixels, a social farming game that migrated to Ronin from another Ethereum developer in the autumn of last year. The play-to-airdrop campaign, where top players receive PIXEL tokens, has also contributed to the growth of the Ronin user base.

However, the recent surge in the price of RON occurred after two significant events in the world of Axie Infinity, a monster battle game based on NFT technology. Sky Mavis, the developer, originally created Ronin to support Axie Infinity back in 2021.

On Tuesday, Sky Mavis launched the seventh season of in-game competitions in Axie Infinity Origins. In this season, named the "Epic Era," 18,900 AX tokens and over 13.7 million SLP tokens will be distributed as rewards. The total value of these rewards is approximately $175,000 at the time of writing.

Later, early Wednesday morning, a rare NFT monster from the Axie Infinity game was sold for 105 Ethereum, which amounted to almost $246,000 at the time of the sale. Jeff Zirlin, co-founder of Axie Infinity, mentioned on Twitter that the NFT Agamogenesis Axie was originally sold for 6 ETH in 2018, which was approximately $3,300 at that time.

Axie Infinity achieved significant success in 2021, attracting millions of active players and reaching billion-dollar NFT trading volumes. However, the profit-oriented in-game economy faced challenges in early 2022, and the bridge between Ronin and Ethereum was hacked for $622 million. Sky Mavis ultimately compensated affected Ronin users and continues to develop the Axie ecosystem, gradually bringing more third-party game studios onto the network.
