Weekly investments in cryptocurrency derivatives reached $103 million

Dec 25, 2023

Last week, investments in cryptocurrency derivatives reached $103 million, bringing the total annual investment volume close to the $2 billion mark. The majority of these investments, $87.6 million, were in Bitcoin, which has seen $1.758 billion invested since the beginning of the year.

There has also been an increase in investments in altcoins: products based on Ethereum, Solana, and Cardano attracted $7.9 million, $6 million, and $1 million, respectively. This year, Solana has shown the largest influx of funds among altcoins, second only to Bitcoin.

Last week, Sweden was the only country to experience a capital outflow ($9 million), while Germany, Canada, and the USA saw inflows of $41.6 million, $25.8 million, and $20.1 million, respectively.

Analysts link the steady influx of funds to the anticipation of the launch of spot Bitcoin ETFs in the USA. The SEC has urged investment companies to submit their final applications for such products by December 29, with approval possibly coming in the early days of the next year.

Over the last three months, CoinShares has recorded an influx of funds into cryptocurrency derivatives. An 11-week streak of positive results was only interrupted from December 11 to 17, when there was an outflow of $16 million, attributed to profit-taking.
