CARV Protocol is a modular infrastructure for identity and data management, initially focused on Web3 gaming and later expanded toward AI agents. The project combines CARV ID, Web2 and Web3 data, confidential computing mechanisms, and a network of verifier nodes. Its user model is built around control over digital profiles and the ability to allow applications to use specific data without transferring all information to a centralized service. In CARV's modern architecture, these mechanisms are complemented by the D.A.T.A Framework and CARV SVM Chain for AI applications working with verifiable data.

1. What Is CARV Protocol and How Has the Project Evolved?

CARV was created as a data layer for the gaming industry, where user data is typically fragmented across games, platforms, wallets, and social services. Instead of building another closed database, the project introduced infrastructure where different data sources can be linked to a unified identifier and used with the owner's permission.

CARV's architecture covers several stages of working with information: identity management, data acquisition, storage, processing, and verification of results. The system includes CARV ID, authentication and attestation services, storage infrastructure, Trusted Execution Environments, and distributed verifier nodes. This approach makes it possible to separate user data from any individual gaming application.

In April 2024, CARV raised $10 million in a Series A funding round led by Tribe Capital and IOSG Ventures. The project had previously secured seed funding with participation from Vertex Ventures, the venture capital arm of Temasek, as well as strategic investment led by HashKey Capital. At this stage, gaming and AI remained CARV's primary areas of development.

The project's positioning later expanded. In addition to gaming data infrastructure, CARV began developing the D.A.T.A Framework and SVM Chain for AI agents. Therefore, the description "gaming data layer + ID" accurately reflects the project's original specialization, while its modern ecosystem also covers decentralized identity, AI, and verifiable data infrastructure.

2. CARV ID and Unified Identity for Web2 and Web3

CARV ID is designed to unify a user's fragmented digital identity. A single person may simultaneously have multiple cryptocurrency wallets, gaming accounts, social profiles, and achievements across different platforms. CARV links these sources into a unified profile while preserving the user's ability to control access to individual pieces of data.

The technological foundation is ERC-7231, an Identity-Aggregated NFT standard authored by members of the CARV team. It extends the ERC-721 model and enables Web2 and Web3 identities to be linked, with user permission, to NFTs and soulbound tokens. ERC-7231 has reached Final status in the Ethereum Standards Track.

CARV ID can aggregate and use different types of information:

  • cryptocurrency wallet addresses across different networks;
  • Web2 accounts and associated identifiers;
  • gaming achievements and activity history;
  • on-chain transactions and ownership of digital assets;
  • verifiable credentials and attestations;
  • data for personalizing games and Web3 applications;
  • context required by AI agents to analyze user behavior.

An important difference between this approach and a conventional account is identity portability. An application developer can use authorized CARV ID attributes instead of creating a completely isolated user profile. For example, this can make it possible to verify a particular achievement or a user's activity history from another service.

At the same time, aggregating data creates additional privacy requirements. CARV uses cryptographic proofs and Trusted Execution Environments to reduce the need to disclose raw data to every party. The user model assumes that individuals can choose which information may be used by a specific application or service.

3. Gaming Data Layer, CARV Play, and Player Data

The gaming industry became the first major use case for CARV Protocol. Data fragmentation is particularly relevant for developers because a single player may use dozens of games and wallets while information about their activity remains separated across different platforms. The data layer makes it possible to aggregate these signals and create a verifiable profile with the user's consent.

CARV Play serves as a user-facing application within the ecosystem. It combines a catalog of Web3 games, gaming events, quests, and an achievement system. According to CARV documentation, achievements can be transformed into verifiable soulbound tokens, creating a portable record of gaming activity.

For developers, aggregated data can be used for audience segmentation, behavioral analysis, and the creation of personalized gaming experiences. For example, an application can take verified achievements or on-chain activity into account instead of analyzing only its own internal user database.

However, such a system depends on the quality of source data and user consent. A portable profile does not guarantee the accuracy of every external source, which is why attestations and verification mechanisms play an important role in the architecture. This distinguishes a data layer from a conventional user data aggregator.

4. Verifier Nodes, TEE, and Data Processing Architecture

CARV Protocol uses a modular model for processing information. According to its documentation, the data lifecycle includes identity aggregation through CARV ID, data authentication, storage, processing, and utilization of the resulting information. Individual components can connect to different layers of the system, allowing applications to use only the services they require.

Trusted Execution Environments are used for operations involving confidential data. A TEE isolates computations from the primary environment of a device or server, while remote attestation makes it possible to verify that processing was performed within a specific protected environment. This mechanism is used, among other purposes, for processing user data and AI-related workloads.

Verifier nodes add a distributed verification layer. Their original role was associated with verifying identity and data attestations, while their functions were later expanded to include verification of data processing results, TEE attestations, and components of the AI infrastructure. The verifier client code has been published in CARV's open repository.

The architecture also uses zero-knowledge technologies for scenarios where a specific fact needs to be proven without fully disclosing the underlying information. Combined with TEE, this creates a hybrid privacy model: confidential computations are performed in a protected environment, while individual claims can be verified cryptographically.

However, the technology does not eliminate all risks. Security depends on smart contracts, TEE implementations, node software, attestation mechanisms, and data sources. Applications that process personal information must also comply with the applicable legal requirements of each jurisdiction.

5. CARV Token, AI Infrastructure, and Ecosystem Development

CARV is the native token of the ecosystem with a maximum supply of 1 billion tokens. According to the project's tokenomics, 50% of the supply is allocated to Nodes & Community, 19.459% to the team and advisors, 9.246% to early investors, 8.295% to private fundraising, 9% to Ecosystem & Treasury, and 4% to liquidity. The total token supply is scheduled to unlock over several years following the TGE.

The token is used for economic functions within the protocol, including incentivizing data layer participants, operating verifier nodes, and staking. CARV is also connected to the veCARV model: participation in staking or node operations can provide voting power for governance. However, the DAO documentation describes some governance parameters as part of an evolving model, so these should be distinguished from immutable characteristics of the protocol.

Following its initial focus on gaming, CARV expanded its architecture toward AI. D.A.T.A stands for Data Authentication, Trust, and Attestation and provides AI agents with access to structured on-chain and off-chain data. The framework can work with blockchain activity, user profiles, and cross-chain information while using CARV ID as one of its sources of context.

Another component is CARV SVM Chain, designed to execute operations for AI agents. The documentation describes it as infrastructure based on the Solana Virtual Machine while using Ethereum for finality. Within this model, CARV ID provides identity, D.A.T.A supplies verifiable data, verifier nodes handle verification, and the blockchain layer executes operations.

Overall, CARV Protocol has evolved from a specialized gaming data layer into a broader infrastructure for identity, data, and AI. Its core concept remains the same: connecting fragmented Web2 and Web3 data around a user-controlled profile and providing applications with verifiable access to information. The practical value of this model depends on the number of integrations, data quality, infrastructure security, and the extent to which developers and users need portable digital identity.
