Coinbase to discontinue Bitcoin SV (BSV) support, requires user action

Nov 7, 2023

Coinbase is set to cut all support for Bitcoin SV (BSV), according to a notice sent to customers. The leading U.S. cryptocurrency exchange has declared that holdings of BSV on the platform will be liquidated if not removed by January 9. Coinbase initially delisted BSV, also known as Satoshi’s Vision, in 2021 following a "51% attack" on the coin's blockchain, causing network instability.

While clients have been unable to trade BSV since then, they've still been able to keep it in their wallets on the platform. Failure to withdraw these funds will result in Coinbase liquidating the remaining BSV into another asset. Bitcoin SV, born in November 2018 after a hard fork from Bitcoin Cash, has been at the center of controversies, with its main advocate, Craig Wright, claiming to be the elusive creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto. Despite such claims, BSV remains a divisive cryptocurrency and has been removed from numerous major exchanges, including Kraken.
