NFT from the CryptoPunks collection was sold for $17 Million

Mar 21, 2024

An NFT from the famous CryptoPunks collection was sold for an impressive 4,850 ETH, which is approximately equivalent to $17 million. This token became one of the most expensive in the history of sales of this series. Earlier, another NFT from the same collection was purchased for $16 million. The record holder for the highest price in the series remains CryptoPunk #5822, acquired in 2022 for 8000 ETH or around $23.7 million.

The NFT sold on March 20, 2024, with the number 7804 belongs to the AlienPunks series. The previous owner acquired it in 2021 for 4200 ETH ($7.57 million). The buyer of the token at the time of publication of the article was not identified. The transaction was conducted through an Ethereum wallet, which was first replenished through the Coinbase exchange on the day of the sale.

The former owner expressed disappointment that the NFT did not bring the expected increase in value, despite long-term ownership. Nevertheless, the sale brought him a profit of 650 ETH (about $2.3 million), although it took a whole year to find a buyer.

This is the second NFT from the CryptoPunks collection sold in March 2024. Earlier this month, a token with the number 3100 was purchased for 4500 ETH, which at the time was approximately $16 million. AlienPunk #7804 ranked second in value among all NFTs in this collection, second only to #5822. Additionally, the sale of AlienPunk #7804 entered the top five most expensive NFT acquisitions in history, where the first place is held by Mike Winkelmann's digital collage "Everydays: The First 5000 Days," sold for $69.3 million in March 2021.
