OpenSea dropped to fourth place due to a decline in NFT sales

Mar 6, 2024

Lately, the market for non-fungible tokens (NFTs) has experienced a noticeable decline, resulting in the platform OpenSea now occupying only the fourth position in the ranking of leading trading platforms. Research conducted by CryptoSlam shows that global NFT sales have decreased by 26% in just one day, with the total trading volume amounting to $58.2 million. This decline is likely associated with investors shifting focus towards the cryptocurrency market.

Ethereum continues to lead the NFT market with sales volume reaching $23.5 million in the last 24 hours, while trading in Bitcoin on the CryptoSlam platform takes the second place with a result of $20 million. Among digital collections, NodeMonkes stands out, based on Bitcoin and launched in December 2023, with sales volume exceeding $5 million, allowing it to surpass projects such as Ordinals, Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), and Pandora.

Analysis of CryptoSlam data also indicates a 4% decrease in the number of NFT buyers and a 9.4% decrease in sellers over the last day. According to information from DappRadar, currently, the leader among NFT trading platforms is Blur with a total sales volume of $25.3 million over the past day, although the number of transactions on the platform decreased by 3.3%, amounting to about 4570 unique transactions.

On the second-largest NFT platform, Magic Eden, trading volume also dropped by 38%, reaching $8.4 million with 10,510 sales. Meanwhile, the OKX NFT Marketplace showed a slight increase in daily NFT sales volume, which now stands at $5 million.

OpenSea, previously considered the largest NFT trading platform, is now in fourth place with a trading volume of $4.99 million in the last 24 hours. The average price of a digital collectible item on OpenSea dropped by 22.22%.

The declining interest in NFTs comes against the backdrop of the overall growth of the cryptocurrency sector, which has shown significant success in the last month, with Bitcoin even reaching its all-time high.
